An initial 25 staff, including the project team working on a new commuter train (pictured) for ScotRail and the company’s Learning & Development division, are setting up at 500 Avebury Boulevard.
Hitachi Rail Europe aims to double the number of employees at the offices. The firm has chosen Milton Keynes in order to be close to key customer Network Rail, with which it is working to develop skills in signaling, traffic management and the ‘digital railway’, said a spokesman.
Hitachi Rail Europe managing director Keith Jordan said: “The opening of our new office in Milton Keynes is yet another example of our determination to be a major player in the UK rail sector. We look forward to being an inclusive member of the business community in this region.
“Having offices in Milton Keynes is a key part of our ongoing strategy to provide more job opportunities here in the UK.”
The company is also recruiting, in particular in its engineering division working around the UK and at its head office in London.
Hitachi Rail Europe’s arrival has been welcomed by Milton keynes’ inward investment team.
Pam Gosal, head of corporate economic development and inward investment at Milton Keynes Council: Invest MK, said: “This move further endorses our international status as a world class business location, which is strengthened by the fact that we are home to hundreds of international companies.
“We were delighted to be approached to assist in the initial stages of Hitachi Rail Europe’s investment in Milton Keynes.”
