The group will comprise businesses and representatives of local councils and other key stakeholders. It will follow the model set by the Chamber’s highly successful Bedford Business Group, chaired by Chamber chairman Rod Calvert.
Chamber director Richard Cooper hosted the launch meeting at the Holiday Inn Express, Dunstable.
Also in attendance were Central Bedfordshire Council’s assistant director economic growth, skills and regeneration Liz Wade and Steve Cantellow, HSBC’s commercial manager for HSBC in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire who spoke about conditions for business.
South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous has pledged to act as a conduit to government for the group.
The Dunstable and Houghton Regis Business Group will meet bi-monthly. Mr Calvert said: “This will not be yet another card-sharing group but a genuine interest group. The plan is to develop into a powerful lobbying voice on issues that really matter to businesses in Dunstable and Houghton Regis.”
