The Milton Keynes-based form has unveiled this year’s Legal Scholarship Scheme. It offers students a head start into a career in law with not only offers a bursary of £1000, but the recipient of the scholarship will also be able to undertake paid work experience within the law firm at its office in Knowlhill.
Kimbells Freeth partner Valerie Warman, who will be responsible for assessing candidates, said:“We were absolutely delighted by the response from sixth form students to our Scholarship Scheme when we started it last year.
"Students were really appreciative of the opportunity to win not only a bursary of £1000, but also to undertake paid work experience in a commercial law firm at the end of their first year of studies.
“Law students face a tough landscape with increased university fees and intense competition for training contracts so we were pleased to be involved in a scheme which invests in lawyers at the start of their careers.”
The scheme is aimed at students from local schools who are planning to study for a degree in law in September or October this year.
All they have to do is to submit a short written response designed to demonstrate why the sixth form student deserves to win the scholarship.
Last year, more than 50 applications were received from students from schools across Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. Six shortlisted candidates spent time at Kimbells Freeth’s offices talking to lawyers and receiving advice about their future legal careers.
The 2013 winner, Henry DiMascio from Buckinghamshire, will be spending two weeks with the firm this summer. Runner-up George Bambrick, from Bedfordshire, has also been offered work experience this summer.
