Film promotes town to potential investors


The film, which has already received hundreds of hits on YouTube, aims to engage businesses, potential investors and residents in the town’s long-term future.
Leighton Linslade Mayor Cllr Amanda Dodwell talks passionately about the town and why it is a good place for businesses to invest.
Central Bedfordshire Council’s executive member for sustainable communities (strategic planning and economic development) Cllr Nigel Young pictured outlines the economic and infrastructure ambitions for the area, including the creation of more than 2,400 jobs and the benefits of the planned A5-M1 link road.
The film features interviews with local business owners and explores how people living and working there feel about their town and what it means to them.
Cllr Young said: "This video is all about spreading the word that Leighton Buzzard and Linslade are great places to live and work. It is such a vibrant area, with a rich heritage and a thriving town centre. It is big enough to have the services you need, yet small enough to maintain a really friendly feel. 

"But there are challenges ahead, particularly encouraging businesses to come and make the town their home in difficult economic times."
Ambitions for Leighton Buzzard and Linslade highlighted in the film include:
  • Plans to develop an area south of Leighton Buzzard High Street, currently a car park, for both residential, business and retail use, including cafes and restaurants. The redeveloped area will link to the High Street through the town’s alleyways, which will be enhanced and re-developed in keeping with the town’s existing historic character.
  • 2,500 new homes which are to be built to the east of Leighton Buzzard and an area for employment use the size of 12 football pitches will also be developed creating 2,400 new jobs.
  • A new relief road which, along with the A5-M1 link road and in time, the A6-M1 link road, will improve transport links to the town.
Cllr Dodwell, who is also a Central Bedfordshire councillor, said: "Ultimately we all want the best for Leighton Buzzard and Linslade. In these uncertain economic times it is more important than ever that we’re pulling in the same direction and doing everything we can to maintain confidence in our town."
Despite being done on a small budget, the council is hoping that the film will be a hit when it goes on YouTube this month. It already has over 600 views.
