Fanzone prepares to celebrate arrival of the Rugby World Cup

The city is proud to be one of 11 Host Cities for Rugby World Cup 2015, one of the world’s largest sporting events, hosted in England and Cardiff.

Part of the celebrations taking place in Milton Keynes will include a family friendly Fanzone at Campbell Park, which will be open during the Rugby World Cup 2015 tournament from October 1 to October 11 to coincide with the matches at stadiummk:

France v Canada on Thursday next week (October 1)

Samoa v Japan on Saturday October 3

Fiji v Uruguay on Tuesday October 6.

Fans can watch Rugby World Cup 2015 matches on big screens inside the undercover Marquee Arena, join in with rugby-related activities and entertainment or enjoy refreshments from the food and drink concessions within the Fanzone.

Visitors and fans will be able to enjoy the tournament, offering not only a fantastic setting but a great atmosphere.

Expect to find undercover areas with screens, a sports bar, funfair, rugby activities, art and film programmes and live music events at the Fanzone.

Briony Fox, head of community engagement at The Parks Trust and festival lead co-ordinator, said: “We’re planning to put on a brilliant show for rugby fans and their families.

“If you haven’t managed to get a match ticket at stadiummk, don’t worry. Come along to our Fanzone where you can watch a match in the undercover marquee arena, try out the rugby bungee, get a bite to eat, join in the celebrations or cheer on your favourite team.

“We have had lots of support from local people who have volunteered to help during the event and support from local businesses.”

During the tournament the Fanzone will have plenty of local entertainment on the site, including:

  • The Deceivers, who will officially open the Fanzone site;
  • Rayguns Look Real Enough – A Comedy and Cabaret Band;
  • Soul Fever –a local soul band with classics from 60s and 70s;
  • Milton Keynes Haka attempt on Sunday October 10 at 12 noon;
  • A Rugby World Cup 2015 themed Spectacular, Danbor Talka – Clash of Drums on Friday 2 and Saturday October 3.

Milton Keynes Council deputy leader Cllr Hannah O’Neill said: “The Fanzone at Campbell Park is a fantastic opportunity for people to really feel part of Rugby World Cup 2015, even if they don’t manage to get a ticket to a match. There is so much on offer for fans of all ages.

“This is just a glimpse of what Milton Keynes has to offer on the world stage”.
