Chilli grower lands ‘hot’ deal

Edible Ornamentals, based in Chawston, will supply chillies under the From My Farm brand to Morrison stores across the East of England.

Almost three-quarters of Morrisons customers preferred to buy locally-grown rather than imported produce. Most chillies are imported from Egypt and Kenya.

Charlie Falkingham, of From My Farm, said: “We work closely with Morrisons, who are renowned for their support of in-season fresh fruit and vegetables. It is great to find a supplier of fresh chillies within our region.”

Joanna Plumb (pictured), a RHS qualified horticulturalist, started Edible Ornamentals to grow more than 40 varieties from which she prepares a range of chilli sauces to her own exclusive recipes.

She said: “Like most fruit and vegetables, the fresher the chilli, the better the flavour. Thanks to From My Farm, Morrisons customers can now buy locally grown chillies which will not only be fresher and have more flavour but grown locally, it means fuel savings on transport and a lower carbon footprint.”
