Chief executive collects MBE for services to business

She was awarded the honour in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list earlier this year for her services to business.

Her husband ken and daughters Donna and Kelly were at the palace to see the ceremony.

Mrs Smart said: “I was very proud to be presented with my award by the Prince of Wales. It was a once-in-a-lifetime day for me and my family and a great honour, not only for me but also for Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce.”

She has worked for the Chamber for more than quarter of a century. She began her career with the Chamber helping export businesses and gaining a reputation for her broad knowledge and distinction for taking businesses on missions to areas of the world not known for being hospitable to women.

Mrs Smart has been chief executive of the Chamber for four years and is a governor of the Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust, a board member of the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership and a trustee of the University of Bedfordshire Students’ Union.
