Chamber elects new chairman

At the meeting, held at Butterfield Business and Technology Park in Luton, Richard Combes stood down as Chair of the Chamber after six years of service to the organisation. Deputy chairman Brian Hibbert was elected as his replacement.

Mr Hibbert (pictured) was managing director of Lockheed Martin UK Insys Ltd until his retirement in November 2006 since when he has been a consultant to the company.

He said: “I am delighted to be the Chamber’s new chairman. Richard Combes has done sterling work as chairman, taking the Chamber through some challenging periods. I hope that I will be able to continue Richard’s good work, ensuring the Chamber fulfils its vital role in making Bedfordshire and Luton a great place to do business.”

At the meeting, Mr Combes wished Mr Hibbert and the Chamber well. He urged attendees to encourage other businesses to support their local Chamber.

“The Chamber is a key player in the local business community,” Mr Combes added. “In my opinion it’s the duty of every business to be part of the Chamber and ensure that there really is a genuine voice for local business.”
