Businesswoman joins small firms elite in Downing Street

The campaign aims to put small, independent businesses in communities across the country well and truly in the national spotlight.

The invitation to Downing Street came after virtual assistant business Agile Administration was named in the Small Business Saturday 100, a list of top small firms from across the country. All the members of the list were invited to the event.

Agile Administration owner Cathy Wright is pictured with entrepreneur Karren Brady outside 10 Downing Street. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne also met with the business visitors.

“A Christmas Fair on Downing Street, networking with other businesses, meeting George Osborne and Karren Brady – it was a really lovely afternoon,” said Cathy, who set Agile Administration three years ago.

“I felt extremely privileged to have been selected.   Small businesses need support and encouragement, the aim of my business is to do just that, to help lighten the load.”

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said: "Britain’s small business owners deserve our support. They are the ones who take the risks to create new opportunities and new jobs, that show off British ingenuity and innovation and I am glad that once again they will be able to be the focus of all our attention and support.”

Small Business Saturday campaign director Michelle Ovens said: “The first Small Business Saturday last year was an exceptional example of collaboration and co-operation with small businesses teaming up in communities around the UK.

“We always said we wanted this to be the start of something amazing; a regular event that shines a light on small businesses throughout the UK in a way which is hugely beneficial to both the local and the national economy.

“Small Business Saturday reinforces that message and demonstrates the level of diversity, innovation and talent that is active within our small business sector.”
