Volunteers from the bank’s fraud team, based at its headquarters in Central Milton Keynes, will give talks to Age UK home visitors, home support workers and service users with the aim of reaching 450 local residents.
The talks provide information on current scams, how they work and advise on how to keep personal information safe and counteract fraudulent activity.
Sarah Marelli, volunteer coordinator at Age UK Milton Keynes, said: “The elderly can be particularly vulnerable to fraud as they are seen as easier targets by fraudsters.
"We are really grateful to the fraud team at Santander for volunteering their time to help make our clients feel safer and more confident in what they do.”
Fraud against individuals totals more than £9 billion every year. Karen Tyler, head of fraud at Santander’s Milton Keynes head office, said: “We are looking to highlight the most common cases of fraud and tips to stay safe to ensure elderly residents, and their families, feel secure and protected.”
Santander volunteers will highlight the best ways to minimise the threat of being defrauded online, over the telephone and in person. The most prevalent types of fraud are online, telephone and selling scams.
