Speaking on a visit to the airport, Michael Dugher said the development of the airport will boost aviation connectivity and the local economy.

His visit comes after the airport announced a record year for passenger numbers, with 10.5 million people flying from LLA in 2014, and confirmed the introduction of 10 new routes throughout 2015.
The Shadow Secretary of State was shown the redevelopment plans and works under way by Mr Barton and chairman Clive Condie, which include:
- Major improvements to transport links, including better road access to the M1, new car parking facilities, a remodelled bus and coach interchange and improved rail links;
- Flights to more domestic, European and international destinations;
- A major redesign of the terminal to create a quick, efficient, friendly and convenient passenger experience;
- New shopping and eating options and the development of a new world-class executive lounge.
Mr Dugher also met with representatives from LLA’s shareholders Aena and Ardian, to hear how the transformation of the airport will also add £283 million to the local economy and create 5,000 new jobs.
He said: “It was great to visit London Luton Airport today to see first-hand the major transformation project that is under way.
“Labour recognises how important aviation expansion is to our economy. These plans at London Luton Airport are impressive and will improve aviation connectivity in the South East, improve services for passengers and help the local economy to grow to boost the number of good quality jobs.”
Mr Barton said: “It is a great time to welcome the Shadow Secretary of State to the Airport as the development plans reach a critical stage and we get ready for major reconstruction work to begin this year. 2014 was a milestone year for us as we hit record passenger numbers, thanks to the Airport’s easy access and great value air services on offer. The development plans shown to the Shadow Secretary of State today will ensure our growth continues by creating the best possible passenger experience.”
