Cycle giant builds new UK headquarters

Work has begun on building the 82,700 sq ft facility at Tilbrook for the Trek Bicycle Corporation.

The USA-based giant has awarded the contract for the work to developer Hampton Brook. The new headquarters is expected to open in April next year.

Trek opened its UK division in 1989 and has been based in Milton Keynes at Kingston since 1998. Such has been the growth in popularity of cycling that business has more than trebled in the last 12 years.

There are more than 20 million bicycles in the UK and Trek sells more than 80,000 a year plus a range of cycling accessories.

Trek Bikes UK manager Nigel Roberts said: “This figure continues to grow due to our continued development of market-leading products and is further assisted by the general growth in cycling taking place in the UK and globally.

“The new facility at Tilbrook has been designed to incorporate indoor bike parking areas and full shower and changing facilities as over half of our staff are keen cycling commuters.”

The new headquarters will comprise a warehouse with ground-floor reception, showroom and first-floor offices. Diggers have already moved on to the site.

Developer Hampton Brook is also behind The Pinnacle, the largest office development in Central Milton Keynes for 25 years. Director Ian Jackson said the Trek scheme was one of the largest pre-let deals in Milton Keynes. The company has taken a 15-year lease on the development.

Mr Jackson added: “Despite current market conditions, our premium product has again proved to be successful. Once completed, the building will be BREEAM Excellent certified, continuing our philosophy of best practice in sustainable development and will compliment our award-winning portfolio.”
