Breakfast club strikes gold with Olympic heroes

Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie pictured won gold in the sport of canoe slalom at the Olympics last year, part of an historic performance by Team GB.

They will be reflecting on their sporting careers, culminating in their Olympic success, at the Bedford Breakfast Club meeting next Wednesday (October 16). The club, sponsored by Woodfines Solicitors, business advisers Mazars and HSBC, meets monthly at the Bedfordshire Golf Club in Stagsden.

Valerie Findlay, senior associate solicitor at Woodfines, said: “We are delighted that Tim and Etienne will be joining us discuss their journey to a gold medal at the Bedford Breakfast Club. The group attracts speakers of a high calibre but this might be the first time we have had Olympic gold medalists with us.”

Etienne first started canoeing on the River Ouse in Bedford with the Scouts, before joining a local club and starting his competitive career aged 13.

Tim grew up in Westhill, Aberdeen, where he followed his keen recreational canoeist parents onto the water for the first time at around three years of age.

Since forming as a canoe doubles crew in 2004 and failing to qualify for Beijing Games in 2008, the pair have come a long way in their journey, before winning Gold at London 2012. Their path to success is a story of tenacity, teamwork and determination to maximise their potential.

The meeting starts at 7.45am and the group welcomes business professionals from across Bedford and Bedfordshire for networking and breakfast.
