Work starts on pioneer renewable energy power station

Growing Beds Recycling Services expects the project at Thurleigh to be completed in the summer.

The scheme is a joint venture agreement with waste-to-energy company Bioflame, specialist renewable energy investors the Ventus Venture Capital Trust Funds and B & W Waste Management Services.

Growing Beds will divert 30,000 tonnes of low-grade wood waste a year from landfill per annum. The wood waste will, instead, be used as valuable feedstock for Twinwoods Heat and Power Limited’s sophisticated clean-burn combustion system.

THPL is responsible for building and operating the privately funded power station (pictured), The company has signed a long-term contract with a supermarket chain, which will purchase the green energy output from the power station.

Further funding for the scheme has been provided by The Co-operative Bank plc under a long term loan facility.

The power station will create eight new jobs and will operate around the clock. It will recycle waste wood collected at Bioflame’s recycling facility at Ravensden near Bedford.
