Travel grant aims to encourage ‘smarter’ working

The Sustainable Routes project aims to focus businesses employing up to 250 people on improved travel choices and provide them with a plan and guidance on how to implement smarter travel options.

The match funded grant of a maximum £1,000 will be awarded towards the cost of implementing an initiative.

The grants could be used for projects such as consultancy on remote working infrastructures, developing flexible working policies, video conferencing equipment and fuel conversion.

Milton Keynes Council is also offering free staff travel surveys to local business in order to highlight alternative travel options.

Cllr Alan Mallyon, cabinet member responsible for transport, said: “This is fantastic news for Milton Keynes. This money will help improve business efficiency by reducing car journeys, CO2 emissions and will help both businesses and employees cut costs.

“The free staff travel surveys offered by the council will make more people aware of alternative sustainable travel options.”

The match funded grant is being made available from the European Regional Development Fund and is accessible through Business Link.
