Centre wins green accolade

The Sunday Time’s Best Green companies aims to rank entries by their environmental performance, polling employees to find out how green the company really is. In the resulting report, thecentre:mk was praised for its employees’ attitudes to recycling and the centre’s commitment to setting and achieving impressive waste and energy reduction targets.

The survey revealed that 81% of employees at thecentre:mk felt that bosses were open to suggestions on environmental improvements, and 84% of employees believe the organisation is doing a great deal to minimise its environmental impact. The centre scored 93% for employees being fully aware about where to put waste and has also encouraged employees to turn off electrical appliances when not in use, resulting in the centre exceeding its energy reduction target of 15% last year by 5%.

Centre director Robert Goodman (pictured) said: “We are delighted that our shopping centre has been so successful. We are committed to improving our environmental performance and have implemented a series of sustainability initiatives that actively engage all of our employees as well as our shoppers in reducing the output of both waste and energy at the centre.

“I think it is true to say that as a company we are committed long-term to tackling the issue of sustainability.”
