Seven leading organisations made the Skills Pledge at government-backed event in the city. They have undertaken to raise employee skill levels throughout their organisations by instigating training and other educational initiatives.
Delegates also heard Tony Kearsey (pictured), assistant director for adult skills at the Department for Skills, Innovation and Universities, outlined the government’s long-term commitment to funding and developing the training for staff across the South East region.
The seven Milton Keynes businesses that made the pledge were:
Kents Hill Training Centre;
Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber of Commerce.
Jungheinrich UK finance director Gavin Kibble gave a valuable insight into the work that Jungheinrich has done in conjunction with Investors in People and the Chamber of Commerce to empower and upskill their own staff, and the benefits they have already seen to the organisation.
Chamber chief executive Rita Spada said: “By taking the Skills Pledge, these seven companies have really blazed a trail for other Milton Keynes companies to show the same level of commitment to their staff, to safeguard the future development and growth of the city over the coming years.”
Once the pledge has been made, Train to Gain brokers and providers including the Chamber put together an action plan tailored to each specific business.
Since launching in 2007, more than 4,500 organisations have taken the Skills Pledge and helped to improve the career development of 4.5 million employees across the UK.
