Station completes £200m upgrade

The £200 million project, which has also built a new through line, will increase capacity and reliability at the station.

As a result, more 12-car trains will stop at the station during peak times. Other improvements include five services an hour to London Euston and significantly improved weekend services.

The work, which has taken two years to complete, has increased the length of Platform 1 by 60 metres to 12-car trains to run to and from Milton Keynes. Network Rail has installed a signalling system incorporating the new track layout and new power and telecoms systems working in conjunction with rail operator London Midland which manages the station.

Dr Phyllis Starkey, MP for Milton Keynes South West, said: “This will have a tremendous impact because it increases capacity for passengers and provides a great facility for the future.”

Milton Keynes Council cabinet mMember for environmental services Cllr Chris Williams said the work was great news for Milton Keynes. “We are looking forward to seeing further improvements including the revamping of Station Square early next year and new day time services to Liverpool and Scotland.”

London Midland has recently introduced an hourly Trent Valley local service, which provides excellent connections with the north stopping at Northampton, Rugby, Nuneaton, Tamworth, Lichfield, Stafford and Stoke.
