Airport’s upgrade earns praise from MP

The work, carried out ahead of the London 2012 Games, saw Cranfield act as a key arrival point for Games officials. Mr Stewart (left) is pictured with airport director Jason Ivey.

The MP for Milton Keynes South saw for himself the investment being made to attract business aviation to Cranfield.

Mr Stewart, a member of the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee, said: “Clearly Cranfield Airport has invested significantly. With the current demand for airspace and airport development in the South East of England utilising an already established site such as Cranfield will help contribute to local and international business going forward.”

Mr Ivey, who showed Mr Stewart around the upgraded 2,400 sq metre facilities, said: “Due to our close location to both London and Milton Keynes, Cranfield Airport is ideally situated to appeal to the business jet customer.

“We also have the added benefit of being able to relieve some of the business jet pressure from nearby Luton Airport.”

The airport already supports the local economy by handling air passengers heading for the motorsport hub at Silverstone – a 12-minute helicopter transfer away – during the British Grand Prix.
