Airline creates new jobs and boosts presence at London Luton

Feb 03, 2018

The airline will have a total eight Airbus A321 planes at Luton, from where it will increase capacity to 7.4 million seats in the coming year – an increase of 23 per cent.

Late last year Wizz Air increased its presence at Luton from one aircraft to seven and announced eight new European routes. It carried more than 5.5 million passengers on its Luton routes in 2017, an increase of 11% on 2016.

The arrival of the new aircraft will create 42 new local direct jobs on top of the 180 jobs already created at Luton this year. It is increasing the number of weekly flights on its routes to the Romanian capital Bucharest and Ukraine’s capital Kiev.

Wizz Air’s chief corporate officer Owain Jones said: “Wizz Air’s operations at London Luton continue to go from strength to strength.  As the second largest operator at London Luton, WIZZ’s continued investment at London Luton underlines our commitment to the UK market.”

The airline is looking to recruit more cabin crew as a result of its expansion and is holding a series of recruitment open days at the Ibis Hotel Luton Airport, on February 9, 20 and 27.

Mr Jones said: “We are continuing to create more local jobs at our London Luton base and offer the opportunity to develop a career in aviation with one of Europe’s fastest-growing and most dynamic airlines. We are always looking for people with a passion for aviation.”
